What Are The Differences Between YourName.ca and easyDNS?
YourName.ca is a licensee of easyDNS. Consider us a scaled-down, no-frills, basic meat-and-potatos version of easyDNS that's cheaper, but it isn't easyDNS.
Here are the important differences between easyDNS and YourName.ca:
- YourName.ca does not utilize DNS Anycast - when you are using YourName.ca you are using a scaled down DNS nameserver infrastructure that's probably an order of magnitude better than the crap your average web host or registrar will "throw in" for free, but it doesn't hold a candle to the easyDNS nameserver cluster.
- No anycast
- No Prolexic anti-DOS/fortification
- Single node nameservers
But the nameservers are up-to-date, patched, monitored and DNS changes propagate instantly.
- YourName.ca doesn't answer the phone. We do all support via email and when the situation warrants it, we will call you to sort something out. Again, it's not easyDNS - one ring and a human picks up - but, you will probably get an email response back from us in less time than you'll waste rotting on hold, listening to elevator music and marketing drivel at the larger, cheaper, bargain basement outfits.
- Yourname doesn't have all the nifty features that easyDNS does, such as:
- Host monitoring and failover
- Dynamic DNS
- IMAP Email Hosting
- Outbound SMTP / outbound mailing
- SSL Certificates
- SMTP Port forwarding
I short, we do not pretend to be "The Greatest Place on Earth" for your domains, we are instead: Basic functionality at a reasonable price.
